It’s all over the news- from mainstream Liberal establishments to Conservative blogs; dominating radio and TV, and all over the internet. There are three related stories here, and we’re going to put them all together in a nice little package that you can pick up with one hand and slap a Liberal on the head with.
Republicans on Capitol Hill are vowing to push forward with their drive to cut off federal funding for National Public Radio and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Some news outlets are trying to relate this news with the recent sting operation which caught NPR exec Ron Schiller saying the following (as if this was the reason for the defunding efforts:)
— “The Tea Party is fanatically involved in people’s personal lives and very fundamental Christian — I wouldn’t even call it Christian. It’s this weird evangelical kind of move.”
— “Tea Party people” aren’t “just Islamaphobic, but really xenophobic, I mean basically they are, they believe in sort of white, middle-America gun-toting. I mean, it’s scary. They’re seriously racist, racist people.”
But the fact is, this sting, which did expose some blatant bigotry, has nothing to do with the fact that Republicans want to end funding for NPR and PBS. And, Republicans say the effort will not be affected by Schiller’s departure. That, from a Washington Examiner story.
An NPR article tries to distance itself from Schiller’s comments, by quoting several NPR exec’s saying, “In no way shape or form do they reflect what NPR does and who NPR is.” But they also keep updates on poor Mr. Schiller’s status.
The sting operation was perpetrated by a fake Muslim organization with undercover cameras.
Michelle Malkin said, “Too bad the Muslim Education Action Center Trust is a fake organization — Schiller would have made a perfect spokesman for them.” Funny, but true.
But my favorite take was this one at TogloPundit… How is this even news… The fact is, Conservatives have known forever about the blatant bias at NPR. The kind of extreme comments made by Ron Schiller just prove it, again.
Something worth mentioning: WGBH, a public radio station which also owns a public TV station, WGBH in Springfield, Mass., received $11.5 million in federal money this year— about 8 percent of its $156 million operating budget, according to the Boston Herald. So, anyone who tries to tell you that this will close down Public Radio or TV simply doesn’t do the math. I mean, come on, 8 percent of a $156 million-dollar budget will not destroy them.
NPR CEO Vivian Schiller has also resigned.
(No relation to Ron Schiller, who was caught on tape).
The high-profile meltdown at NPR really has nothing to do with the defunding efforts by Republicans. They have been trying to defund it since the dawn of time.
As you may know, it passed the House but was shot down in the Senate yesterday.
“Our concern is not about any one person at NPR,” said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. “Rather, it’s about millions of taxpayers. NPR has admitted that they don’t need taxpayer subsidies to thrive, and at a time when the government is borrowing 40 cents of every dollar that it spends, we certainly agree with them.”
Of course, Cantor is right. There’s a great piece on Hotair about some provocative examples of where the money goes.
Then, to top all that off, the new interim CEO at NPR is a Democrat political contributor. But there’s no bias there. The Daily Caller goes into detail about how much she gave and to whom.
Even Noam Chomsky knows NPR is far-left. Just watch the opening line of this video…
